Xanthi

Xanthi is a city of Thrace, capital of the prefecture of the same name. Built at the foot of the Rhodope mountain range, at the beginning of the plain which stretches south to the Thracian Sea.

In the area of ​​Xanthi, the aromatic Basmas tobacco is produced, which is famous all over the world. In the past, she was called a “princess” because of the wealth brought by the tobacco trade, and in this way she became known to the ends of the earth and gained glamor and great fame.

An important cultural element is the Old Town of Xanthi, which is located in the northern part, constituting its historical core and covering an area of ​​380,000m2.

Other important sights worth seeing in Xanthi are the tobacco warehouse area, the Folklore Museum, the Municipality Gallery, the Central Square, the Town Hall, the Kosynthos River, the Leivaditis (or Trachoni) Waterfall, the Macedonian Tomb of Stavroupolis as well as the Bazaar of Xanthi which, according to stories, has been held since the 15th century.
