Rethymnon is located in the heart of Crete and is the home of Zeus, the god of hospitality. Rethymno and its villages stand out for their unique picturesqueness, where one can taste the famous Cretan cuisine and listen to the Cretan lyre.
It is located on the northern coast of Crete, on the eastern side of the Gulf of Almyros and is the third most populated urban center of Crete.
The old town of Rethymnon largely preserves its urban structure, as it was formed during the Venetian occupation, with the inevitable changes brought about by the Turkish occupation and its up-to-date population. It has been declared a traditional settlement and a historical monument.
In addition to the well-known Psiloritis, it is worth visiting the Nida Plateau, Lake Preveli, Simonelli cave, Geraniou, as well as several archaeological sites, gorges and Venetian monuments that Rethymnon has.
